William's story

William's passion with herbs and herbal tea started to grow when he was suffering from type 1 diabetes 10 years ago. After coming back to Malawi from his time in South Africa, his diabetes worsened from type II to type I, to a point he was not able to walk. Desperate to find a cure, he started drinking herbal tea that his friend recommended to him.
After drinking the tea for a month, he started feeling better day by day, and he was once again able to walk without a problem. He was hugely impressed by the power of herbs and natural product, and the positive affects that they have on your body.

While he was fully convinced by the health benefits of herbs, he experienced that they were not as accessible as they should be. He has faced multiple individuals who wanted to take advantage of the fact that he was sick and desperate to find a cure.
Wezi wanted to make herbs accessible to everyone, by guaranteeing affordable price and availability. This encouraged him to take a significant step in 2017 to start his own business, Ujere.
Today, his products can be found not only at Kaza, but also at pharmacies and Panda store in Dedza.
He has successfully exported his products multiple times, to the UK and South Africa.

Today, he sells 34 different types of herbs and herb related products, which can be infused into tea or eaten.
His Roselle tea is very popular among his clients, but also some green tea and Gondolosi.
Herbs have various health benefits, from improving blood circulation, helping respiration problems like asthma with Mentol, and giving energy with zinc contained mixtures.

He is also very mindful about the environmental impact his business has. He is about to complete a full transition to using a fully biodegradable paper packages for all of this product range.

He is currently working to receive the MBS certification to start being able to sell his products in retail shops. This journey is not an easy one, however.

Financing has always been a challenge, as he has to hire various individuals, such as a quality assurance experts. Once obtaining the MBS certification, he wants to start selling his products in capsules, so that clients can standardize the amount they can take, and be more aware of the health benefits.
